GigE Vision Offload Engine

GigE Vision Offload Engine

Dual-Port GigE Vision Platform with PWM Light Control

The VPS-3100, is a compact, rugged vision system powered by a 4-core Intel N3160 processor with 1.6GHz. Two independent Gigabit Ethernet ports provide dual GigE Vision device connections with data transfer rates up to 2.0Gb/s for robust and reliable machine vision applications.

Manufacturing and packaging lines often provide many opportunities over their entire length for implementing vision inspection systems like the embbeded Vision-PC VPS-3100. (Figure: Advantech Europe BV)

The VPS-3100 supports dual channel PWM lighting control, and offers PoE, ToE (Trigger over Ethernet), and dedicated FPGA delivers GoE (GigE Vision Offload Engine) that reduces the CPU workload significantly. The combination of PoE and ToE provides the single cable solution (data, power, and triggering) to simplify system installation and reduce maintenance effort. Featuring powerful and flexible isolated digital I/O, and compact size (Palm-size, 137x50x118mm), the embedded PC is perfect for machine vision. With an IP40 rating, the system is at home in rough environments; high humidity, dust, and corrosive atmospheres don’t bother it. The dedicated coprocessor (FPGA) reconstructs images before transmitting them in real time to the host PC via DMA (Direct Memory Access). It frees up the host PC processor and ensures zero frame or packet loss during image acquisition and transmission. The system includes 1K bit EEPROM for customer programming. Featuring ad hoc networking, the connection between GigE Vision cameras and VPS-3100 are self-configuring, and user-defined IP addresses are no longer necessary. For camera connections two times GigE Vision with 15.4W per channel are installed. Further interfaces are 1x i210IT Gigabit LAN), 2x USB 3.0, 1x RS-232/422/485 and 1x RS-232. The included machine vision software platform EzBuilder features full and partial licensing options, making it cost effective. The graphical user interface shortens the initial learning curve, helping developers to become efficient quickly. Advanced capabilities such as lighting control and connections for other software packages (such as Scada and motion) provide the required level of flexibility. Robust security, as well as cross-platform compliance with other software packages, rounds out the feature set.
