Object Detection With Unique Micro Code Technology

A novel authenticity verification system recognizes small micro code sprayed on object surface creating an area 1 to 3mm². Camera features and software versatility allows to encrypt the cloud of sprayed dots into a unique code linked with the object.

NET supported the Russian solution provider Epos with a high-resolution USB 3.0 module to bring their unique method for most reliable and safe detection to live. The Moscow-based company Epos took up on the challenge to meet protection requirements of rare and expensive objects subject to cultural and historical ancestry, i.e. paintings and music instruments, and developed the detection system Micro Code. It uses a chemical labeling method in combination with optical authentication. This technology utilizes special markings detected by a product called Sova-UV1. The detector incorporates the USB 3.0 color camera 3iCube module by NET. Epoc could integrate very efficiently the camera and profit from a camera module capable to visualize dots at high resolution (12,000dpi) and transfer quickly large processed data amounts. The set markings measure 2 to 3mm in diameter and have a unique structure and chemical composition. Also, they exhibit several additional spectral features at certain conditions. Sova-UV1 can resolve those chemical markings down to 2µm. At such a resolution the microstructure of markings can be seen easily. Then, random dot positions are converted to a digital code linked with the authentic object. The micro code technology allows both authenticity and tracking of objects. Each mark is unique and cannot be reproduced. The marks can be easily sprayed on any type of surface covering a square of 1 to 3mm². Furthermore, the micro code is durable and resistant to any mechanical impact (erasure, damage) and does not require any additional power supply or components and has unlimited shelf life.

The mark is not visible in ambient illumination. Sova utilizes a focused illumination system featuring a defined spectrum to make the micro codes visible. The construction of the detector enables non-invasive micro code visualization. The software allows to compose unique codes and links them with an existing object ID stored in the database. Then, the software checks the sprayed micro code against the one in the database. Integrated algorithms allow micro code detection even in situations of harsh lighting conditions, namely a loss of 75% of luminous dots or fixation only of 25% of micro code square.
