inVISION: What was the idea that initiated the foundation of your Company?

Renting, insuring or buying a car are very stressful experiences. A big part of this stress is caused by a lack of trust. Trust that the rental company will not charge you for damage you did not cause. Trust that the insurance company will fairly assess the condition of your vehicle. Or trust that the used car you’re buying is in the condition that was listed in the marketing materials. With Ravin we asked the question – can we use technology to improve trust in vehicle condition reporting?

inVISION: What Is the Goal You Want to Reach?

We want to become the DocuSign for vehicle condition inspections: a trusted intermediary that helps companies efficiently and accurately assess vehicle condition and generate a verified condition report, using computer vision to automate inspections. We aim to install our systems – which use off-the-shelf CCTV cameras – at every rental site and used car processing facility. We also aim to have our mobile app used to automate inspections anywhere vehicles change hands – logistics, repossession, sharing or leasing.

inVISION: What Is The Question Your Product Is The Answer For?

There are over 1bn vehicle inspections every year. Most of these are done manually. Remember, for example, the last time you rented a car and had to walk around the vehicle. Even the biggest auto companies are still doing inspections like this. These inspections are expensive, time consuming and inconsistent. Ravin is using computer vision and deep learning to automate vehicle inspections, providing transparency and efficiency wherever vehicles are rented, insured or sold.

inVISION: What Makes Your Company Unique?

With Ravin’s system, vehicle inspections are cheaper and faster. We don’t ask our customers to invest in large lighting tunnels or expensive camera equipment. We use standard off-the-shelf CCTV cameras or smartphones to capture the vehicle condition. Our customers do not have to interact with our systems on site, or stop their vehicles – the process is fully automated. Finally both our hardware and software products are flexible and can be adapted to different use cases, such as those mentioned above.
